The Finish

The finish of a cup of coffee is the most important part.
In my opinion.

It’s the part that makes you want to go back for more.
It puts everything that went before it into context.

Some coffees are delicate when you take the first sip.
Some smack you right in the mouth.
Some are sweet
And some are bright.
But after that initial experience
You have the finish.

Is it long and drawn out.
Is it quick and sudden.
Does it turn chocolatey and round.
Or does it tighten up.

And well after you are done with the sip,
How does it leave your mouth feeling.
Do you want more of it?

The best coffees take you for an experience every sip.
And it’s crazy how similar that is to life.
The whole ending thing.

Life can be so hard at times.
Or all the time it’s hard,
And some times it’s even harder.
But when a thing is done,
And you look back at it,
How do you feel.
Was it worth doing.
Was this thing I just slaved for worth it.

Life is hard
And it doesn’t matter what you do.
So don’t try to run and hide from things that are hard.
It’s all hard.

When the hard things that are good are done
you feel proud -
You feel connected.

When the hard things that are bad are done you feel heavy and weary.
And you start to dread.

When the right things end
And the whole experience is done
You look back and think,
Did we really just do that?
I had no idea we could.
But look how far we’ve come.
Look what we’ve done.

Yes.
It was hard.
But I’d do it again.
Because the finish was so sweet.
